Shenandoah Forum

Fostering informed dialogue about growth and development in Shenandoah County

About Shenandoah Forum

OUR MISSION:

Shenandoah Forum is an informal public/private effort to promote adherence to the Comprehensive Plan, ensuring that the county:

  • Remains essentially rural
  • Preserves a healthy environment
  • Promotes a sustainable economy
  • Provides a high quality of life for the people who live here

OUR PLAN OF ACTION:

The Forum’s Plan of Action is to encourage and facilitate open, informed dialogue among diverse interests within our community on issues of growth and development.

OUR TARGETS:
Our targets for information are:

  • Board of Supervisors and other elected officials
  • Comprehensive Plan Review Committee
  • Public at large

OUR HISTORY:

Shenandoah Forum started in 2002 as a loosely-knit group of county residents and landowners who were interested in finding ways to inform and educate the community about issues of land use, growth, and development.

Since that time, the Forum has grown into a strong voice in the community with a membership of more than several hundred residents, business owners, community leaders, and interested friends and a board of directors from across the county.

OUR PAST PROJECTS:

A sampling of the Forum’s past projects includes:

  • Participation in the Citizens Advisory Committee for the update of the County’s Comprehensive Plan;
  • 2005 Community Forum: Improving Interstate 81;
  • Resolution for Reasonable Solutions for I-81;
  • 2006 Community Forum: Tools to Implement Our Comprehensive Plan;
  • Partnership within the Shenandoah Valley Network.
