About Our Past Projects
PAST PROJECTS
2010 Farm to Table Agriculture Series: The Forum sponsored three programs starting in March 2010 focused on strengthening the county's agricultural sector. Look for more programs in 2011.
March 2009 Wind Energy Workshop: To better understand options for local wind energy turbines, Shenandoah Forum sponsored a public workshop to look at the technical specifications and impacts of three scales of wind energy turbines: for individual homes and small businesses; for larger businesses and agricultural uses and utility scale.
June 2008 Forum on Wind Energy: The Forum hosted a public forum on wind energy, drawing more than 350 citizens and officials from the region, to discuss the concept of wind energy on the Shenandoah Valley's ridgelines.
February 2007 Shenandoah Community Dialogue Project: wasinitiated to develop a set of consensus recommendations for steps the county might take to implement the comprehensive plan vision for a rural, agricultural community that values its historic and natural resources.
Spring 2006 Forum on Maintaining Our Rural Character; Tools for Implementing Our Comprehensive Plan: The Forum brought together a number of speakers from localities around the Commonwealth that have adopted measures to preserve agricultural land and guide quality development to towns. The forum was well attended by citizens and government officials, who now refer to information gained through the presentations in their ongoing discussions of land use issues.
January 2005 Forum on I-81: Shenandoah Forum hosted a balanced educational event that drew more than 300 residents. The support gained through this initial public discussion, combined with the Forum's sustained networking through email and the media, contributed to record turnouts at public hearings for the draft environmental impact statement for I-81 held in 2006. For more information on I-81.
Broadcast by more than 100 PBS stations nationwide, "Save Our Land/Save Our Towns" is a story of hope explaining how America's towns can be rebuilt and its countryside preserved from strip malls and subdivisions.
