Agriculture Enhancement:

Shenandoah County ranks fifth in overall agriculture production in the Commonwealth.  With an annual farm income of more than $100 million, agriculure is the highest earning industry in the county and relates closely to the success of other industries, such as tourism, within the county.

For detailed information on Shenandoah County Agricultural Production, refer to the 2007 USDA Census of Agriculture.

Farm to Table:
Shenandoah Forum created an agricultural initiative in 2011 to help realize some of the exciting ideas that arose from our Farm to Table series in 2010.
Shenandoah Valley Buy Fresh, Buy Local
Buy Fresh Buy Local  promotes local farming, educates consumers on local food choices and works to make locally grown food more accessible to area consumers.  The annual Shenandoah Valley Buy Fresh Buy Local guide lists producers, markets, retailers, restaurants and local food supporters in the Shenandoah Valley.

Regional Agricultural Economic Development Coordinator
Shenandoah Research and Development Council has been facilitating an ad hoc group of representatives from county government, agricultural organizations, individual farmers and other interested participants for the past eighteen months to determine the feasibility and interest for an eight county regional agriculture position.  The group recently announced its support for a regional coordinator as the most cost effective way to strengthen, diversify and expand the Valley's agricultural sector -- stating that "Agriculture should and can continue to be the mainstay of our local economies in the Shenandoah Valley".
